A discontinuity capturing formulation based on VMS

We will present a novel discontinuity capturing formulation for convection. By enforcing monotonicity in the VMS scale projection we derive novel discontinuity capturing formulations that closely resemble existing discontinuity capturing formulations. In multiphase flow the monotonicity requirement for the order parameter is usually quite strict. This for instance prevents negative densities and the accompanying ill-posedness of the numerical model. Using ubiquitous air-water flow examples we demonstrate the efficacy of the formulation.
