The requirement for fast and accurate CFD simulations of realistic turbulent flows in the industrial domain and the rise of data-driven methodologies have motivated the search for reliable numerical methods for scale-resolving simulations of turbulent flows. The generation of meshes to effectively represent characteristics resulting from complex fluid flows is a time-consuming and tedious task. This encourages the use of hp-adaptative techniques in which one not only locally adapts the mesh size, h, but also the numerical scheme order, p.
