Adaptive Finite Elements with large aspect ratio for Aluminium Electrolysis

Aluminium electrolysis is a complex multiphysics problem, we focus on the fluid-flow problem with Smagorisnsky turbulence model. As a model problem the modified p-Laplacian like problem is considered. An anisotropic a posteriori error estimates and an adaptive strategy is introduced. Numerical results showing the sharpness of the error estimator on adapted meshes are presented. The developed strategy is then applied to the industrial fluid-flow problem. Numerical results show, for a given accuracy, that the computational time is reduced.
