A space-time framework for periodic flows

We exploit the nature of periodic problems and propose a periodic space-time finite elment method. We use the RBVMS method and IgA to solve the incompressible Navier Stokes equations. The space-time domain is defined as an extrusion of the spatial domain with a periodic boundary condition applied to both ends in time. The resulting hydrodynamic forces are found using a conservative traction evaluation. We apply the method to heaving and pitching hydrofoils.
