It has recently been observed that when a water droplet is gently deposited in a hot granular material it can penetrate deeply into it. During the penetration process, the droplet will fluidise the granular bed underneath it while the steam generation will eject the particles creating a chimney above. The digging site can reach a depth of up to 15 times the diameter of the droplet. In this work, we study the numerical modelling of this experiment with a specific interest in the granular motion.
